Performance Analysis of GR9 Titanium Alloy

2025-05-06

GR9 titanium alloy (a variant of GR5 alloy) is widely used in aerospace, chemical, and shipbuilding industries due to its excellent overall performance. This article briefly analyzes the tensile properties and melting point of GR9 titanium alloy.

1. Composition and Characteristics of GR9 Titanium Alloy

GR9 titanium alloy mainly consists of titanium (Ti), aluminum (Al), and vanadium (V), with the following typical composition:

Ti: 89.0%-90.5%
Al: 5.5%-6.8%
V: 3.5%-4.5%

Its light weight, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance make it widely applicable in high-temperature and harsh environments. GR9 is an α-β type titanium alloy with good heat resistance.

2. Tensile Properties of GR9 Titanium Alloy

The tensile strength of GR9 titanium alloy is influenced by its heat treatment state. In the annealed condition, the tensile strength is as follows:

Tensile Strength (σb): 895-930 MPa
Yield Strength (σ0.2): 825-860 MPa
Fracture Elongation (δ): ≥10%

Appropriate heat treatment can increase tensile strength, even exceeding 950 MPa.

3. Melting Point of GR9 Titanium Alloy

The melting point of GR9 titanium alloy ranges from 1600°C to 1650°C. Its high melting point makes it suitable for high-temperature environments, such as aerospace engines and extreme conditions. The addition of aluminum and vanadium slightly lowers its melting point compared to Pure Titanium but still maintains high stability.

4. Thermal Expansion and Creep Resistance of GR9 Titanium Alloy

GR9 titanium alloy has a low thermal expansion coefficient of 8.8×10⁻⁶/°C, which helps reduce thermal stress. Its creep resistance is excellent, especially in mid to high temperatures, performing better than aluminum and magnesium alloys.

5. Corrosion Resistance and Applications of GR9 Titanium Alloy

GR9 has outstanding corrosion resistance and is widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, and chemical equipment, especially in corrosive environments. The oxide film that forms on its surface enhances its corrosion resistance.

Conclusion: GR9 titanium alloy, with its strong overall performance, is widely used in various fields, particularly in high-temperature and corrosion-resistant environments.
